For Japanese businesses

A Chiang Mai software team for Japanese companies and Japanese-owned factories in Thailand

Northern Thailand has been a manufacturing base for Japanese companies for decades. WHALE TASK works with firms that have a plant or subsidiary here, and with companies in Japan that want an overseas development team only two hours from their clock.

Why us

Why Japanese companies choose a team in northern Thailand

In the same area as your factory

Northern industrial estates host many Japanese companies. Our team can drive to the plant — not merely video-call headquarters.

Only two hours apart

Thailand is UTC+7, Japan UTC+9. Working hours overlap nearly completely: a question asked in the Tokyo morning is answered before lunch.

Written reporting every cycle

We deliver a written progress summary and a real working demo every two weeks — a fit for the detailed reporting culture Japanese companies expect.

A cost structure meaningfully different from developing in Japan

With the same process, testing, and handover standards we apply to every client.

Time zones

Working across the time difference

Japan runs two hours ahead of Thailand: 9:00–18:00 in Tokyo is 7:00–16:00 in Chiang Mai. Both morning and afternoon meetings work for the Japanese side, and urgent questions always receive same-day answers.

Engagement

Engagement models

Fixed-scope project

A defined scope, a price range that narrows through discovery, delivered in phases — best when the problem is already settled.

Monthly dedicated team

A standing team working to your priorities each month — best for continuously evolving work that needs fast direction changes.

Taking over an existing system

We inherit what a previous team built, complete its documentation, then maintain and extend it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions from Japanese companies

How does WHALE TASK work with Japanese companies?

WHALE TASK is a software development team in Chiang Mai, Thailand, working with Japanese companies in two main ways: firms with a factory or subsidiary in Thailand that need systems their Thai staff will genuinely use, and companies in Japan wanting an overseas development team whose working hours overlap almost entirely with their own. The first consultation is free.

Is the time difference between Thailand and Japan a problem?

No. Thailand is UTC+7 and Japan is UTC+9 — a two-hour difference — so normal working hours overlap almost completely. Questions sent in the Japanese morning are answered the same day, and meetings can be scheduled in either the morning or afternoon without anyone working outside business hours.

What languages does the team work in — is Japanese supported?

WHALE TASK works primarily in English and Thai across meetings, system documentation, and user manuals. For Japanese clients, the arrangement that works best is coordinating through an English-speaking manager, or through the Thai subsidiary's team who communicate with us in Thai — the pattern Japanese companies in the northern industrial estates already use.

Will systems built for our Thai factory actually be used by Thai staff?

Yes, because we design the screens and steps together with the Thai floor staff who will use the system daily, rather than only from a specification sent by headquarters. Every system ships with a Thai-language manual, and our team stands on site through the entire first week after go-live.

Who owns the source code?

The client owns all of it. WHALE TASK hands over source code with full ownership rights, documentation another team can continue from, and infrastructure accounts registered in the client's name. These terms are stated in the contract from the beginning, never negotiated at the project's end.

How do cross-border contracts and payments work?

We contract in English, specifying scope, phased delivery milestones, and payment terms tied to those milestones. We accept payment in Thai baht or foreign currency via international transfer and issue the accounting documents your company requires. Tax treatment of cross-border transactions should be confirmed with tax advisors on both sides.

How is our data secured, and where is it stored?

By default we design so client data lives in the client's own cloud accounts, with the server region chosen to match your company's policy. Development team access is granted per person and revoked immediately when work ends, and personal data falls under Thailand's PDPA, which is structurally similar to GDPR.

Can the team travel to Japan, or visit our factory in Thailand?

Both. For clients with a plant or office in Thailand, site visits are part of normal work and included in the project price. Travel to Japan for meetings can be arranged as the project requires, with costs agreed in advance.

How do we start working together?

Start with a free one-hour consultation where we listen to the problem, ask about your real working process, and say plainly what to begin with and roughly what budget it deserves. We then propose a scope and price range — with no cost until you decide to begin.

Ready to talk with a team near your factory?
