Careers

Build software that real businesses run on

Whale Task is a Chiang Mai software house behind ERP systems, mobile apps, and data platforms like WhaleScope. We hire for craft and ownership — people who want to see their work used, not shelved.

How we treat people

No time clock, and a few other things we do differently

Most of these exist because someone here disliked the alternative at a previous job. They are how we work, not perks we advertise and quietly ignore.

No clock-in, no clock-out

We don't track attendance. We look at what you shipped and whether the team could rely on you — not what time you appeared.

Hours that fit your life

Start early or start late. What matters is a few overlapping hours with the team and telling people when you'll be away.

Growth you can see

A written path with the skills each level expects, reviewed twice a year — so promotion is a checklist, not a favour.

Budget to keep learning

Courses, books, and conference tickets are on us when they connect to work you're doing or about to do.

Paid for skill, reviewed openly

Salary is tied to the level you're at, and we tell you exactly what the next level needs before you ask.

Pick your own machine

Choose the laptop and screens you work fastest on. Slow tools cost far more than they save.

Social security and real leave

Full statutory cover plus leave you're expected to actually take — including when you're sick, without proving it.

Hybrid, for everyone

The whole team is hybrid — office days for the work that goes better face to face, home days for deep focus. Nobody asks permission.

Your hours are yours to arrange

Nobody counts the minutes you spend at a desk. Work from the office, from home, or from a café on Nimman — as long as the team knows where you are and the work lands when you said it would.

Career path

Four levels, written down before you join

Growth here is not a vague promise. Each level says what you own and what moves you to the next one, and we review it with you twice a year.

  1. 01

    Junior

    What you own

You own well-defined tasks end to end, with a senior reviewing your work closely.

Moves up when your work ships without rework

  2. 02

    Mid-level

    What you own

You own a whole feature — its design, its edge cases, and what happens after release.

Moves up when others start asking for your review

  3. 03

    Senior

    What you own

You own a system and the people learning it — you shape decisions and make teammates better.

Moves up when your judgement changes what we build

  4. 04

    Lead

    What you own

You own outcomes across projects — the client relationship, the architecture, and the team's direction.

Where technical depth and business judgement meet

Seniors who teach, not just review

Small teams only work when knowledge moves. Every project pairs people at different levels deliberately, so the person learning has someone to ask and the person teaching sharpens their own thinking.

Internships

Trainees are paid, and treated like the team

We take students and career-changers every intake. If you are still studying, this is the part worth reading — an internship here is a paid job with a mentor, not free labour dressed up as experience.

Apply as a trainee

Paid, every month

Our internships carry a monthly allowance. We don't ask anyone to work for exposure.

Same benefits as the team

Equipment, the learning budget, hybrid days, and leave work the same way for trainees as for everyone else.

Real work, with a mentor

You are assigned a mentor and real tickets on a live project — not filing, and not a throwaway practice task.

A route to a full-time seat

Trainees who fit are offered a junior seat first, entering the same career path on day one.

How we work

Ship real products

Everything we build serves real businesses — ERP, apps, and data platforms in daily production use.

Small team, full ownership

You see the whole picture — talk to customers, design the system, ship it, and watch it get used.

Modern stack, no legacy drag

Next.js, Go, Flutter, and Google Cloud — we choose tools for speed and quality, and keep improving them.

Chiang Mai based, hybrid by default

A Chiang Mai team that values focus, craft, and a sustainable pace — splitting the week between office and home.

Areas we're always interested in

We recruit on an ongoing basis in these areas. Send your profile — when a seat opens, we start from this list.
